Patios, Paths and Walling
There is now a bewildering diversity of paving and walling products available on the market ranging from the traditional to new ‘natural’ products. These vary in size, texture, colour and origin, from concrete products to natural quarried stone.
Whatever you choice, we have experience in laying all such materials to your design or following consultation/suggestion, to create patios, paths, retaining walls or just as a stand-alone feature within your garden design.
An essential to a successful wall, path or patio is however its base. Walls require a good concrete footing and we always recommend a solid sub-base to all patios and paths. The latter is achieved by excavating the base to allow for the laying of a 50 mm hardcore (typically MOT type 1 Roadstone) base, compacted with a whacker plate, followed by laying down a weed inhibiting landscape fabric.
We always lay the paving on wet mortar and generally recommend the use of one of the new commercially available chemically activated grouting mixtures such as GeoFix or Sika Pave-fix.
The laid patio can also be treated with a sealant (eg PaveSeal) which acts as a water/dirt repellent and algal inhibitor as well as maintaining the pristine look of the paving.
